Founder's Address

AWB Nigeria Network was birthed as a result of the prevailing lack of awareness about Astronomy in Nigeria. There was a lot of myths surrounding the subject of Astronomy in various communities, which at the time needed to be demystified through the understanding of the science behind some Astronomical occurrences such as solar eclipses among others.
AWB is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), made up of a team of hundreds of volunteers with versatile and hugely diversified backgrounds in STEM, Space Law, Counselling among others. Some of who possess over 10 years working experience in their various fields with academic qualifications ranging from a B.Sc to PhD. Most of these people possess skill sets that are very relevant for STEM education outreach. The team has been together since 2013 and has carried out a lot of Astronomy projects in the past. Major among these are the Schools’ Astronomy Outreaches, Public Astronomy Outreaches, Girls’ Astronomy camps, Science Teachers Training, Children Astronomy Outreaches for the Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) camps, International Exchange Programs for High School kids on Space related Experiments, among others.
AWB as a very credible and transparent organization, gets her funding through grants, donations, aids, sponsorships, from local and international organizations to carry out STEM related projects across Nigeria. Prominent among these organizations are the Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD), Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) International, International Astronomical Union (IAU), Universe Awareness (UNAWE), VIXEN Company, SSVI Telescopes, the Nigerian Army, among others.
